Sunday AM Acts 4:11-13 06-01-25
Peter & John had been arrested for preaching the resurrection of Jesus.
The next morning, they were brought out to speak, so Peter preached a
message on “The Rejected Stone”. This great stone is found throughout
the Scriptures.
The Rock of Ages
I. Rock of our Salvation Exodus 17:6
A. Moses struck the rock once and water came forth
B. Last leg of journey struck the rock again & it angered God
1. God told Moses to “speak” to rock (Numbers 20:8-11)
2. It was to be a symbol of Christ, once smitten for sin
3. He was offered once & once is enough (Heb. 9:25-28)
C. Christ took our sin upon Himself and paid the price
1. Made him to be sin for us who knew no sin (II Cor. 5:21)
2. Impossible for Him to be smitten again (Heb. 6:4-6)
II. Rock of Offense I Corinthians 1:23
A. Stumbling block to Jews, lack of faith (Rom. 9:31-33)
B. Gospel message is preached for sinful men to repent
1. Sin offends God & sin cannot come into His presence
2. Gospel offends sinners who will not admit the sins
3. There men stand - alienated against God (Eph 4:17-18)
III. Chief Corner Stone Eph. 2:19-22
A. Jews service to God was built upon the Rock
1. The stone which the builders refused (Ps. 118:22)
2. Every stone was squared to fit in the temple
B. Church built upon the same Rock (Matt. 16:18)
1. Fitly framed for a habitation of God (Eph. 2:19-22)
2. Built upon foundation of Jesus Christ (I Cor. 3:9-15)
IV. Judgement Stone Matt. 21:42-44
A. Broken upon the Rock of Ages or crushed in judgment
B. Same Rock that is found throughout the Bible
Con. Great old hymns of faith speak of the “Rock of Ages”. He is
our salvation & our Rock.
