Pulpit to the Pew

It is not at all unusual for us to find fresh garden vegetables at the back door of the parsonage. Sometimes we don’t even know who left them but we always appreciate it. Thank you so much for sharing the fruits of your labor.

Grand Prairie Church Camp - Camp pre-registration material may be found on the vestibule table of the church foyer. Camp will be July 20-24 at Budd Creek. Campers must be at least 9 years of age or have an adult (male for boys and female for girls) be responsible for that underage child. One adult male counselor for each 10 or fewer boys and one adult female counselor for each 10 or fewer girls. Camp fee is $65 per camper. Most, if not all, of this fee is offset by the generous offerings of our church members. This offering is received throughout the year so that anyone who wants to go to church camp will be able to do so.

Bottled Water Drive - Cases of bottled water are being accepted for our church camp week. Cases of water should be placed in the empty room, second door from the end of the fellowship hall.

Budd Creek Special Offering - The first Sunday of each month we receive an offering to help pay campers fees to Budd Creek Church Camp. The offering received today will be the last one before camp. Ushers will be at the auditorium doors to receive this offering following the morning service today.

"Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." II Cor. 3:17

Youth Choir Practice After Lunch Today

No Adult Choir Practice on 4th Sundays

Business Meeting: Our monthly business meeting will follow the evening services today.

Missionary Committee Meeting - Following the noon meal today, our missionary committee will meet in the Couple’s Classroom.

Ladies Auxiliary Cook Books - Advance sales for the Ladies Auxiliary cook books are being accepted. The books will be $12.00 each. You will find coupons on the vestibule table. Money for the cookbooks may be turned in to Sister Faye or Sister Brenda.

Looking for a few "Sound Men" - The Men’s Fellowship has committed to the purchase of a multi-functional (CD/DVD) duplicator for the sound room. To use a play on words; all of our men are invited to take part in being "sound men" for Lakeside by helping to purchase this equipment. We have had a good response to the "Sound Men" project. Checks should be made out to the church and clearly marked on the memo line where the offering is to be used.

Vacation Bible School - The first week of August, Lakeside will conduct a Vacation Bible School for kindergarten through sixth grade. (Our teens assist with VBS.) You can help, even now, to make the 2009 VBS a great success. First, pray for the school. Second, mark your calendar and make plans to help out on that week. Third, get commitments now; from grandchildren, neighbor kids and any other children you know. Fourth, remind them regularly when and where the VBS will take place. Request: Director, Faye Keathley, has asked that you save clear, one or two liter, bottles for VBS.

Church Lawn - We appreciate those who are taking care of the church lawn this year. For others who would like to volunteer, there is a sign up sheet on the vestibule table. It is divided by calendar weeks.

Sunday Morning I Cor. 15:1-34 23rd in series

Chapter fifteen deals with the resurrection from the dead. Some have denied this Bible doctrine and have "spiritualize" the clear teaching of Scripture on Christ’s bodily return and the raising of the dead. The fact is that if there is no resurrection, we are forever lost.

The Gospel of the Resurrection

I. Gospel Defined I Cor. 15:1-11

A. Gospel to Preach - good news, evangelize (v 1-2)

B. Gospel to Receive - way fo salvation (I Peter 1:23)

C. Gospel to Stand - no back up plan, this is it

D. Gospel that Saves - thru genuine faith in Christ

E. Christ died & buried; according to fulfilled Scripture (v 3-4)

F. Rose from dead 3rd day; according to Scripture

G. Proofs of the resurrection (v 5-8)

1. Appeared to: 1. Cephas, 2. 500, 3. James, 4. Apostles, 5. Paul

2. Preached by all the apostles as truth & martyred for it

II. Gospel Dilemma I Cor. 15:12-19

A. Seven things that must be true if resurrection is a lie

1. Christ did not rise, 2. Preaching useless, 3. Faith worthless,

4. Apostles are liars, 5. Dead are gone forever,

6. We are still lost in our sins, 7. We are to be pitied

B. Miserable if this is all there is (v19)

III. Gospel Determined I Cor. 15:20-28

A. Resurrection is guaranteed in Christ only

B. Order of the resurrection (v 20-23)

1. Christ first fruit: as wave or sheaf offering (Lev. 23:10-20)

2. Symbolic the rest of the crop still in the field

3. They that are His will be raised at His coming

C. Christ will set up His kingdom when He returns (v 24-26)

1. All other authority and power will be abolished

2. All enemies destroyed - death being the last enemy

IV. Gospel Discarded I Cor. 15:29-34

A. Why baptize anyone if there is no resurrection? (v 29)

B. Why stand in jeopardy: danger of persecution (v 30-32a)

C. If death is the end why not feed the lust of flesh (v 32)

D. Such teachings disregard the gospel & corrupt lives (v 33)

Con. Awake (v 34, Rom. 13:11) and sin not: It is a shame to have to remind Christians of something so basic as facing God in eternity.
