Pulpit to the Pew

We do use the internet here at the church. Our mission reports come to the church by e-mail. Lakeside is also found on the ABA web site. Those of you that have access to the internet may view an on-line version of the church bulletin at www.lakesidembc.org. (Just click on the media/bulletin button.) This version is not as full as the one you get here at church but does include all the announcements and is posted every week. Occasionally, I will send something by e-mail to those who have indicated they would like to receive it. If you would like to be included, write down your e-mail address and leave it in the church office or send it to me at eddieaddison@netscape.net

Wednesday Nights - Although it does take more planning during the summer; Wednesday night prayer meeting is worth the effort. The mid-week service helps us get through the rest of the week. It is a time to refocus with praise, prayer, and preaching.

Men’s Fellowship - The Men’s Fellowship meeting was moved to Monday night, June 1st because of the Memorial Day holiday. Pot luck meal begins at 7:00 PM. We usually have twelve to fifteen men and a few teenage boys. Come and join us for a night of great fellowship and great food.

Ladies Auxiliary - The Lakeside Ladies Auxiliary will have their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday night, June 2nd at 6:30 PM. All the ladies are encouraged to participate.

Youth Trip - The youth groups will be taking a trip to Wild River Country on Wednesday, June 3rd. (This was previously announced for Monday but due to scheduling conflicts, it has changed to Wednesday.) Be at the church at 9:00 AM. Price for admission is $10 for adults and guests. We will need sandwiches, chips, cookies and can drinks. If you have any questions, see Stephanie or Becky.

Ladies Auxiliary Cook Books - Advance sales for the Ladies Auxiliary cook books are being accepted. The books will be $12.00 each. You will find coupons on the vestibule table. Money for the cookbooks may be turned in to Sister Faye or Sister Brenda.

Wednesday Nights - Although it does take more planning during the summer; Wednesday night prayer meeting is worth the effort. The mid-week service helps us get through the rest of the week. It is a time to refocus with praise, prayer, and preaching.

House Warming Shower - There will be a House Warming Shower at the new home of Brother Dennis and Sister Becky next Sunday, June 7th. It will be from 2-4 PM at their new home at 303 Norman Drive. Those who would like to help should see Sister Garri Lynn.

Thank You - I would like to thank everyone for your calls, visits and most of all for your prayers. The food was delicious and very much appreciated. I am recuperating very well and taking therapy. Even so, it will take a while to recover completely. Continue to remember us in your prayers.

Altar Flowers - The altar flowers for today’s service were placed in honor of Sister Addie. Today is her birthday.

VBS Meeting - There will be a Vacation Bible School planning meeting after lunch today for everyone involved. We need to lock in the schedule, mission goal and discuss pre-registration. Note: There are still teaching positions available. If you are interested in teaching VBS, see Director: Faye Keathley or Assistant Director: Shirley Weems.

Sunday Morning I Cor. 12:12- 31 19th in series

A church by definition is a local body of baptized believers, covenanted together to carry out the commands of Christ. Here a church is compared to a human body with its many members. All parts of the body are necessary and useful.

Analogy from Anatomy

I. Invisible Church Heresy Exposed (v 13)

A. A false teaching built on little preposition "by" in this verse

B. As inverted pyramid: it has no foundation and cannot stand

1. Million scattered bricks are not a building (Eph. 2:21-22)

2. All churches in the New Testament were local

a. They all had a name, a location and met regularly

b. There can be no universal human body or church body

Note; Verses 14-20 speaks to those who do not see their worth.

Verses 21-26 speaks to those who think themselves superior.

II. Inferiority Unnecessary in Body of Christ (v 14-16)

A. No part is less important than any other part of body

B. All parts together make up the body; foot, hand, ear, eye

III. Involvement of all Parts in Church Body (v 17-20)

A. No "important" members that dominate the body

B. All members are needed by the other members

IV. Indispensable Parts? (Overvalued) (v 21-26)

A. Less conspicuous members are not less important

B. There are no disposable members of a church

V. Individual Responsibilities (v 27-30)

A. All members in particular needed to make up the whole

B. List of offices & gifts set in the early churches by rank

1. Apostles -1st century gift to churches

2. Prophets - gifted preachers given inspired messages

3. Teachers - gifted teachers with inspired lessons

4. Miracles - 1st century gift to confirm N.T. messages

5. Gifts of healing - 1st century gift to confirm messages

6. Helps - probably office of deacon

7. Governments - gifts of administration

8. Differing tongues or languages to share God’s Word

C. Not all members have same responsibilities (v 29-30)

D. Compare - Rom. 12:3-8, Eph. 4:11with this passage

Con. Should desire the more noble gifts (I Cor. 13:13)
