Pulpit to the Pew

Satan’s "seat" was well known to the church at Pergamos (Rev. 2:12-17). Unfortunately, Satan is still influencing churches. Just don’t let him get too comfortable.

Medical Missions International - Brother Joe & Katie Hellums report that hundreds more were saved after the team moved on from Ecuador to Columbia. We look forward to hearing from them about this very successful mission trip.

Missionary Committee

Our meeting was cancelled last Sunday but has been re-scheduled for today. The missionary committee will meet just after lunch today in the Couple’s Classroom.

Business Meetings

Our business meeting has moved. The church voted to move business meeting to the second Sunday night of each month.

Our new AWANA/Discovery schedule went well last Wednesday night. Check in time is still at 6:30 but we will close at 8:00 PM. We continue to have new students for our Wednesday night programs. Please remember our Directors and Leaders when you pray. There were ninety five present last Wednesday.

Remember, check-in is now at the main entrance to the FLEC building. The bus pulls up at that door for delivery and pick up of students.

New Tabernacle at Budd Creek

Lakeside Church would like to raise $10,000.00 during the next year for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund. Several fund raising efforts are already underway: The change jar in our vestibule has a $1,000.00 goal for this purpose. The rent a kid project may be done at any time during the year. (Our young people may be "rented" by our church members for chores at a rate of $10.00 per hour. See Scott Addison for details.) Of course, all the proceeds go into the Tabernacle Fund.

Another effort that is underway is for parents, grandparents or others interested adults to give a regular monthly offering. A monthly offering of $25.00 amounts to $300 in twelve months. If 30 families did this, it would raise $9,000.00 in a year!

Everything should go through the church. The church treasurer is keeping up with all that is given for the Tabernacle Fund. Your checks should be made out to Lakeside and designated on the memo line that it is for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund.

Please don’t forget to pray. Pray that God will bless the efforts of other churches that are also raising funds for the new tabernacle. Pray for Brother Paul and Sister Dianne Weatherford, who are responsible for the operation of the camp. Pray that souls would be saved as a result of the preaching of the gospel at Budd Creek Church Camp.

Ladies Auxiliary Cook Books

Advance sales for the Ladies Auxiliary cook books are being accepted. The books will be $12.00 each. You will find coupons on the vestibule table. Money for the cookbooks may be turned in to Sister Faye or Sister Brenda.

Sunday Morning II Corinthians 2:1-17 10-11-09

Paul’s emotions must have been on a roller coaster by this time. From personal pain and distress to the trouble at Corinth. His heart continued to break. The church at Corinth had disciplined the guilty man and now he has returned in repentance. The church needed to know what to do next.

Vice to Victory

I. Tears of the Apostle II Cor. 2:1-4

A. Report of immorality among membership had come to Paul

1. Instructions to purge out the leaven were given (I Cor 5:1-13)

2. Put away the wicked person, from membership

3. Suspend church privileges such as the following

a. Lord’s Supper

b. Voting rights

c. Not allowed to lead in any part of the ministry

B. Disciplined - not to cause pain but to demonstrate love

1. He was already out of fellowship with God & church

2. This effort was to bring him back by declaring the problem

II. Task of the Church II Cor. 2:5-11

A. Forgive the penitent offender and take him back

B. Church had experienced much pain in this matter

1. Told to confirm their love toward him (v 8)

2. Paul’s example in willingness to forgive (v 9-10)

C. No advantage should be given to Satan in such matters ( v 11)

1. Roaring lion seeking to destroy (I Peter 5:8-9)

2. False teachers seeking to deceive (II Cor 11:13-15)

3. Worldly snares seeking to capture (II Tim 2:25-26)

D. Forgive in person or presence of Christ (v 10)

III. Triumph of the Holy Spirit II Cor. 2:12-17

A. Triumph in message of Christ - sweet savior

1. Sweet savior of life for those who accept the message

2. Smell of death for those who reject the message

B. Ill. Sweet smell of victory. Triumphant Roman army often got a parade in which sweet smells filled the air as they entered the city but always ended with captives going to arena to be killed.

C. Message of gospel does not change because some reject it

Con. The gospel of Christ is preached in the presence of God here today. Speaking for God is a great responsibility for the preacher but it also carries great responsibility for those who hear it.
