Pulpit to the Pew

Satan has always tried to inject his influence into the affairs of governments, as well as churches in his efforts to make evil things seem normal. After all, the book of Revelation does describe the anti-christ as a politician and the false prophet is his preacher. God has spoken of such; "Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil... which justify the wicked for reward and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him" (Isa 5:20-23).

Thank You

I would like to thank you all for; well wishes, cards, gifts and phone calls for the pastor’s birthday last week.

Brother Eddie

AWANA/Discovery

We continue to have new students each week. Last Wednesday night we broke one hundred with one hundred and four in AWANA and Discovery classes. (The pastor’s auditorium class also had a good group.)

Holiday Food Pantry

Lakeside gives family food baskets out for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. The pantry is not bare but does need certain food items such as flour and meal to be replenished from now until that time. See Sister Doris Wallace for more information on the food pantry.

New Tabernacle at Budd Creek

Lakeside Church would like to raise $10,000.00 during the next year for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund. Several fund raising efforts are already underway: The change jar in our vestibule has a $1,000.00 goal for this purpose. The rent a kid project may be done at any time during the year. (Our young people may be "rented" by our church members for chores at a rate of $10.00 per hour. See Scott Addison for details.) Of course, all the proceeds go into the Tabernacle Fund.

Another effort that is underway is for parents, grandparents or others interested adults to give a regular monthly offering. A monthly offering of $25.00 amounts to $300 in twelve months. If 30 families did this, it would raise $9,000.00 in a year!

Everything should go through the church. The church treasurer is keeping up with all that is given for the Tabernacle Fund. Your checks should be made out to Lakeside and designated on the memo line that it is for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund.

Please don’t forget to pray. Pray that God will bless the efforts of other churches that are also raising funds for the new tabernacle. Pray for Brother Paul and Sister Dianne Weatherford, who are responsible for the operation of the camp. Pray that souls would be saved as a result of the preaching of the gospel at Budd Creek Church Camp.

Sunday Morning II Cor 3:1-18 10-18-09

Paul’s letter of recommendation was written in the hearts & lives of people he had reached with the message of the New Testament. This chapter is a comparison drawn for them from the Old and New Testaments, that is Tables of Stone vs Tables of the Heart.

The Exceeding Glory of the Spirit

I. Commended by the Work II Cor. 3:1-3

A. Paul needed no letter of commendation to them nor from them

B. Corinthian church was itself proof of his ministry

C. Holy Spirit’s witness - laws written on hearts (Heb 10:15-16)

II. Confidence in God II Cor. 3:4-6

A. Minister of New Testament - not the O.T. letter (v 6)

1. Law never saved anybody (Gal. 2:16, 3:11)

2. O. T. Law was condemnation of sin not a savior from sin

B. Able ministers; not boasting but reliance on sufficiency of God

III. Countenance of Moses II Cor. 3:7-16

A. Ministration of death written in stone came with glory

1. That glory was revealed in face of Moses (v 7)

2. That glory faded under the veil all of Moses life

B. Ministration of Spirit - exceeding glory (v 8-9)

1. If the ministry which condemns was glorious...

2. How much more glorious is that which brings righteousness

C. New Testament far exceeded the glory of O. T. (v 10-11)

D. Great plainness of speech - Illustration is very clear (12-16)

1. Veil represents blinded minds of the Jews

2. When heart turns to Christ, veil of heart is removed

IV. Changed Image II Cor. 3:17-18

A. Luster of O. T. continued to fade but Jews were blinded to it

B. New Testament glory is steadly increasing in intensity

1. Believers are changed to Christlikeness

2. Finally revealed in new body at the resurrection of saints

Con. Spirit of salvation - heart turned to Lord (v 16)

Spirt of liberty - freedom from sin (v 17)

Spirit of transformation - changed to Christlikeness (v 18)
