Pulpit to the Pew

Is Satan real or is he, as some claim, just a Bible illustration representing the principle of evil that is in the world? The Bible describes the devil as a fallen angel who is deceitful to men, rebellious toward God and the father of lies. He entered into the serpent to tempt Eve. He even tempted Jesus, offering Him everything to bypass the cross. He is a manipulator, an imitator and master of illusion. Satan is an extremely powerful creature who fights against God and His people. Yes, Satan is very real.

New Tabernacle at Budd Creek

Lakeside Church would like to raise $10,000.00 during the next year for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund. Several fund raising efforts are already underway: The change jar in our vestibule has a $1,000.00 goal for this purpose. The rent a kid project may be done at any time during the year. (Our young people may be "rented" by our church members for chores at a rate of $10.00 per hour. See Scott Addison for details.) Of course, all the proceeds go into the Tabernacle Fund.

Another effort that is underway is for parents, grandparents or others interested adults to give a regular monthly offering. A monthly offering of $25.00 amounts to $300 in twelve months. If 30 families did this, it would raise $9,000.00 in a year!

Everything should go through the church. The church treasurer is keeping up with all that is given for the Tabernacle Fund. Your checks should be made out to Lakeside and designated on the memo line that it is for the Budd Creek Tabernacle Fund.

Please don’t forget to pray. Pray that God will bless the efforts of other churches that are also raising funds for the new tabernacle. Pray for Brother Paul and Sister Dianne Weatherford, who are responsible for the operation of the camp. Pray that souls would be saved as a result of the preaching of the gospel at Budd Creek Church Camp.

Ladies Auxiliary Cook Books

Advance sales for the Ladies Auxiliary cook books are being accepted. The books will be $12.00 each. You will find coupons on the vestibule table. Money for the cookbooks may be turned in to Sister Faye or Sister Brenda.

Sunday Morning Luke 16:19-31 09-27-09

The Bible message on hell is very clear. Men have sought to make it less offensive or ignore it all together. Nevertheless, hell is a real place which is filled with people who cannot be reached, cannot be helped and cannot be saved. God has recorded the words of a man who knows hell first hand. His words should be taken very seriously today.

A Message From a Man With No Hope

I. The Torments of Hell are Real

A. Identified as "rich man" while one earth but that is all gone

B. In hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments (v 24)

1. Agony of hell is never ending (Mark 9:44)

2. Impossibility of escape (v 26)

C. Fear of family reunion in hell for his brothers (27-28)

D. Hell will deliver up its dead for judgment (Rev. 20:12-15)

1. Yield them up to the Lake of Fire for eternity

2. This is called the "second death"

II. The Comfort of Heaven

A. Lazarus was miserable in life but now in a place of comfort

B. Heaven is a place the lost will never experience (Jn 14:1-6)

1. Only by the blood of Jesus can anyone enter (Rev. 7:14)

2. None other name (Acts 4:12)

3. Heaven is the great homecoming of the saved

III. The Uncertainty of Life

A. Neither the rich man nor Lazarus expected to die that day

1. No guarantee of tomorrow (Prov 27:1)

2. Life is fragile and fleeting (James 4:14)

B. Life on earth is short at best (Psalm 90:9-10)

IV. The Truth of the Scriptures

A. They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them

B. Everything in the Bible is absolute truth

C. The Bible already tells this truth

1. Condemned already (Jn 3:18)

2. Death reigns over lost mankind (Rom 5:12-14)

Con. A man does not have to do anything different to get on the road to hell. Just stay on the one he is on now. When he dies, he too will lift up his eyes in torments. The way to heaven is to turn to Jesus in repentance and faith.
